Carlos Henrique "Caique" Elias (born October 13, 1957) is an 8th degree red-and-black belt master of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ).
After starting his martial arts training in judo at age 15, he began training in 1975 with the Gracie family at the original Gracie Humaitá academy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 1982, Elias became one of only eight non-Gracies ever to receive his black belt directly from Hélio Gracie. [1]
Elias taught at the Gracie Humaitá academy for many years while competing in tournaments. [2] His most recent tournament victory was in the Brazilian nationals in 1995.[ citation needed ] In 1996, Elias moved with his family to the United States to teach at the new Gracie Academy in Torrance, California, which was expanding rapidly thanks to the popularity of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
In 2001, Elias formed his own school, the Caique Jiu-Jitsu Academy. [3] [4] The school is now based in Lomita, California. He still actively teaches classes at his academy alongside his sons, black belt Pedro Elias and Thomaz Elias. When not teaching at the academy, Elias travels around the country holding seminars in the Caique Jiu-Jitsu network of schools and hosting BJJ tournaments.
Elias is featured in the book Grappling Masters. [5] In March 2009, he was awarded a 7th degree red-and-black belt by Rickson Gracie followed by his 8th degree in February 2023.
Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a self-defence martial art and combat sport based on grappling, ground fighting, and submission holds. BJJ focuses on taking ones opponent down to the ground, gaining a dominant position, and using a number of techniques to force them into submission via joint locks or chokeholds.
Royler Gracie is a Brazilian-American retired mixed martial artist and Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner. Gracie ran the Gracie Humaitá school in Rio de Janeiro for many years under his father Helio's direction, and lives and teaches in San Diego, California. Maurício Motta Gomes, also known as Maurição, is a practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu holding the rank of 8th degree white and red belt. The founder of the first Gracie Barra franchise in the United Kingdom, Gomes has been training and teaching BJJ for over 50 years, one of only six people promoted to black belt by legendary Rolls Gracie. Gomes is the father of Roger Gracie, one of the most accomplished jiu-jitsu competitors of all time.
Professor Leonardo "The Wizard" Xavier was born on January 3, 1976, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At the age of 5, Leo ventured into his first martial art, taking judo in school. At the age of 13 Leo began to take Tae Kwon Do classes. Finally, at the age of 15 a friend introduced him to Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
Saulo Mendonça Ribeiro Filho, brother of the equally famed Xande Ribeiro, is a 6th-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). After earning a black belt in Judo, he began his training of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Rio de Janeiro under Royler Gracie, the son of Hélio Gracie, at the famous Gracie Humaitá.
Rodrigo "Comprido" Medeiros is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and submission grappler. Medeiros is a two-time openweight World Jiu-Jitsu Champion. Medeiros has been a Jiu-Jitsu instructor to many notable mixed martial arts fighters such as former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar, former Bellator Heavyweight Champions Cole Konrad, Pat Barry, and Chris Tuchscherer.
Wellington Leal Dias Santos, known by his nickname Megaton, is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) practitioner, and 7th degree coral belt of the Gracie Humaitá jiu-jitsu association under Royler Gracie. Wellington originally trained under Rogerio Camoes and later at the Gracie Humaitá jiu-jitsu school in Rio de Janeiro. Wellington received his black belt at the age of 18. Wellington is currently a coral belt under Royler Gracie.
Arthur Alvin A. Aguilar is a Filipino martial artist and mixed martial arts promoter better known as Alvin Aguilar. He was born on April 28, 1974, in Bacolod, Philippines. He is the president and founder of the Universal Reality Combat Championship (2002–present); He is also the founder and head coach of DEFTAC Ribeiro Jiu-jitsu Philippines (1996–present.) and is currently serving as the president of the Wrestling Association of the Philippines. He started training in martial arts at the age of 9, first in Karate, Arnis and Greco-Roman wrestling. Having spent over 30 years of his life to the study of multiple martial arts forms including Sari-an, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Yaw-Yan, Pekiti Tirsia Kali, etc., he has developed his own unique fighting style specialized in grappling, knife, and street fighting. He is also known for being the first home-grown Filipino Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt.
Braulio de Oliveira Estima is a 4th degree black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He received his black belt from Carlos Gracie Jr. on January 4, 2004. Throughout his grappling career, he has won in many Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments across the world, such as the Mundials, ADCC, Pan American Championship, and European Championship. His long list of accomplishments has made him well respected among other Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners, such that some consider him one of the top Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in the world and one of the head coaches for Gracie Barra U.K.
Stephen Maxwell, better known as Steve Maxwell, is an American fitness coach, physical educator, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor. Maxwell was named one of the top 100 trainers in the United States by Men's Journal.
The Machado Family are a family of Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners, mixed martial artists and grapplers. They are the founders of RCJ Machado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and are cousins to members of the Gracie family.
Leticia Ribeiro N. Dos Santos is a 4th degree Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and multiple time world champion in the sport. She is associated with the Gracie Humaita jiu-jitsu school. Ribeiro is considered one of the top 10 best Brazilian jiu-jitsu female fighters of all time having been distinguished with a mention in the IBJJF Hall of Fame.
Ricardo “Animal” Migliarese is an American professional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu grappler and a 5th degree Relson Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt with approximately 20 years of experience in BJJ and Mixed Martial Arts. A World and Pan-Am Champion, Rick is a trainer, training partner and coach to UFC and MMA fighters as well as other World and Pan-Am Champions. He lives in Philadelphia, PA where he teaches at Balance Studios which he co-owns with his brother, Phil Migliarese. Rick is also one of the co-founders/co-owners of Matrix Fights Promotion Company.

Penny Thomas is a South African submission grappler and 3rd degree Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) black belt practitioner and coach. After opening South Africa's first jiu-jitsu academy in her garage, Thomas won two BJJ world champion titles. Subsequently, she relocated to the United States, where she trained under the guidance of Luis Heredia and later Leticia Ribeiro.
